Is It Spring Yet?

Posted by Genie | March 25, 2014

This has been a very cold, dark and snowy winter. According to our weather service, it is the worst winter in 20 years and it certainly felt like that. My mom always talked about cabin fever and this year I really understood what she meant. I just wanted to go somewhere, anywhere warm and sunny. Finally in February, we drove to the Florida Keys for a winter break and we enjoyed beautiful weather for 2 weeks, mostly in the low eighties. Florida has a lot of beautiful scenery but, for me, the weather was the best thing about the trip. When it was over, I found it very hard to return home and face the foot of snow waiting for us in the driveway.

Since our return I have been impatiently waiting for the snow to melt. Finally this week we can see clear ground, except of course in the few places where we piled the snow as we shoveled. The most encouraging thing about our changing weather situation is that I can see the first daffodils and tulips of spring trying to emerge. And, as always, the little snowdrops are the first to bloom. We now have snowdrop flowers that open on sunny days and I spend a lot of time walking around the yard looking for emerging greenery. I am almost ready to believe that spring might be here.

Well, after another foot and a half of snow and drifts so deep you really don’t want to know, It is difficult thinking spring. Also no blue water yet, either.
