Each Christmas I try to create some of the gifts and decorations for our family. It usually saves money and I really feel the spirit of Christmas as I work on my projects. This year, one of the things I tried was an outdoor decorative arrangement for the front entry. To be honest, I got the idea from our local garden center and decided to try one myself.
We have a lot of evergreen trees and shrubs and it seemed like a natural. I used one of my pots that still had dirt in in from summer and put a lot of branches that I cut from our yard in a basic arrangement. I added a few of the red twigged dogwood branches and used some old decorative berry clumps from other projects. The pot arrangement turned out great and I was surprised by how good it could look just using materials from our yard and some leftover junk. The final piece looks more like winter than like Christmas, so I plan to leave it up a bit longer than the rest of the decorations. In fact it will probably stay up until it starts to look sad.
Note: After getting feedback from Dawn, I went back into my old Christmas stuff and added a few more berries and ornaments. Those will stay on til the New Year.
This idea was really a winner and I plan to do it again next year.
Good idea! I like the look of your arrangement.
I did the same thing! So pretty. I also nestled a few sparkly red tree ornaments among the greens. It looks festive without looking commercial.
Great idea Dawn, I will add a few ornaments for the Christmas season.
Love it! 🙂
Very nice! The red bulbs are very Christmasy! 🙂
Do you just stick in dirt with no foam or anything else to support stems? Just wondered how to keep them from coming out from the cold north wind?
I do just exactly that. However my front door is in a protected area facing south.
