Growing Knock Out Roses

Pink Knock Out rose blooming happily in my garden in early June

As a beginning gardener, I did not have much luck with roses. Mine struggled along and had a few blooms each summer, but they always had lot of aphids and got black spot pretty much every year. My roses were like a sickly child. Of course you love them, but they just don’t thrive, even with a lot of pampering.

A few years ago based on the recommendation of the staff members at Milagers Garden Center, I bought my first Knock Out Rose. What a difference! This rose actually did well in my yard. I really couldn’t believe it at first and waited for black spot to appear, but the hype was true. That rose grew quickly and bloomed from June to October with very few insect problems and no black spot at all!

I have since purchased 4 more of them. I now have two of the original Knock Out Roses, one Blushing Knock Out Rose, one Pink Knock Out Rose and one Double Knock Out Rose. All are doing well in our yard and they add a lot of color to the garden. This burst of color is especially welcome in September and October when most of the perennials are finished and the garden just looks tired.

Research

Knock Out® roses are the hottest plants to hit the market in years. Gardeners love these colorful shrub roses because they bloom profusely with minimal care. The original Knock Out® Rose was introduced in 2000 and has since become the most widely sold rose in North America, according to the Conrad-Pyle Company.

Planting Tips for Knock Out Roses:
